Blo Blow.Dry.Bar

Friday was the pre-opening of Blo, North America's original blow dry bar. I love the simple concept, no cut, no colour, just wash, blow-dry/style and you are ready to go! The blow dry bar opening was complete with pink champagne, pink donuts, cupcakes, cotton candy, and a DJ filling the room with fantastic beats.

I really loved Blo's signature hair menu which includes the styles Red Carpet, Executive Sweet, Hunt Club, High Society, Holly Would, Hugs, Sex and Rock & Roll, and the Boho Braid. It's such a breeze to walk in, flip through the menu, pick a style, and you are on your way to fabulous hair. Each stylist is trained at blo u(niversity) and masters all their signature styles so you always know that your hair will turn our perfectly no matter who does it.

Milk River

posted on: Saturday, August 27, 2011

Last week JP and I went on a mini Southern Alberta road trip. We both hadn't been to Milk River, so we decided to make that our first stop and left for our desintation Saturday afternoon. As we drove and all we saw was endless prairies I began to wonder if maybe we should have gone to the Mountains in BC for a couple days instead. There was supposed to be this spectacular park called Writing-On-Stone near Milk River, but it wasn't looking like the landscapes were changing much as we got closer. When we got to the Park gates and drove down into a valley where our campground was, the prairies transformed into a coulee and hundreds of sand formations! The only way I can describe it was as breathtaking.
The first night JP and I set up camp, and then went down to the beach where there was the most perfectly soft sand. I can't wait to show you guys photos from the rest of Writing-On-Stone! We went on hoodoo hikes, and a tour of an archeological preserve! It was amazing.

VPV Spotlight & Giveaway Winner

Summer is my favourite time of year as most of you know, but Fall is just around the corner, so I'm slowly starting to think of new Autumn essentials to add to my wardrobe. Shades of brown, suede, boots of all sizes, skirts and dresses that can easily transition from the end of summer heat to cooler days are perfect for fall weather. This suede skirt and mini dress From Vantage Point Vintage would be lovely worn with tights or leggings and a cozy wool cardigan, and who can ever go wrong with black boots?

I ordered the prettiest floral patterned skirt from Vantage Point Vintage which will be perfect for fall, and I just can't wait to post some outfit photos!

Sorry it's taken me a while to get to announcing the winner of the Citizens Planet giveaway, but here it is finally!!
The Winner by random.org is #3 Mikhaila!!!!

On another note, I'm back from a camping trip to Southern Alberta, and I will share some photos from mine and JP's trip soon! The trip was a mixture of adventures and a few camping disasters, but all in all a fantastic time.

Next up: Getting my hair done at Blo - Blow Dry Bar before attending PARKLUXE Tomorrow!!

High Fashion and Local Designers to meet at PARKLUXE

The producers of PARKSHOW are bringing to Calgary a new fund-raising initiative featuring local designers who share a common, high-end target market. PARKLUXE is aimed at connecting discerning Calgary fashion lovers with sophisticated local designers who are making an impact outside of our city limits and throughout Canada and North America. PARKLUXE will feature fully-producing designers Caitlin Power, Bridget Bergman, Anne B. Accessories and Lara Presber.

Kara Chomistek, President of PARK, on why they are producing a higher-end show, "As we expand our mandate, what remains consistent is the value the comes from an investment of what we do. We are at this point in time ready to take local fashion to the next level and we want designers to know that there are avenues to get them there."

Power who has been showing her full collections since 2009 and participated in The Toronto Fashion Incubators "New Labels Competition", explains the need for PARKLUXE, "Our city is a rich city, but not in art, in oil. We need these corporate women/men to be exposed to what is out there. We need them to see there are special clothes out there that cannot be found in a mall. We also need the boutiques to support local designers." in 2008, Power won an emerging designers award at Edmonton Fashion Week. She was also named in 2010 by local publications as one of 10 Calgary designers to watch for.

Presber who chose her hometown Calgary's Fashion Central for her destination flagship store said, "PARKLUXE is important for Calgary as it will begin the process of laying the foundation for a fashion presence in our city that reaches an audience that might not otherwise attend a fashion event."

All profits from PARK events goes towards future events supporting local designers and artists in the community. PARK, as an organization, has provided hundreds of artistes mediums to showcase their works to the public and media over the last four years.

PARKLUXE Is supported by many local and Canadian organizations including Gravity Pope, Ki Modern Japanese + Bar, Sophia Models International, Smashbox Cosmetics, Bullfrog Power, Willow Park Wines & Spirits, Hedkandi Salon, Victoria Park BRZ, PK Sound, Night Panda Productions, Bernard Callebaut and Oolong Tea House. Valerie Lim, PARK's Marketing Director said, "Sponsorship of this event helps to bring local designers to a greater stage, and we cannot do this without the community's involvement".

PARKLUXE will be held at the Jamieson Place Winter Garden, 240 - 4th Avenue SW on Friday August 26, 2011. Doors open at 6PM with an opening reception. There are two parts to the fashion show, starting at 7.30PM ad 8.15PM respectively. The closing reception will be held at the Ki Modern Japanese Bar at Jamieson Place at 9PM, 308 - 4th Avenue SW. General admission tickets are $25 each, and VIP seating is being sold for $35. Members of the public can order their tickets via www.ourparkonline.com. PARKLUXE is an 18+ event, and guests are recommended to arrive slightly earlier as doors will close when the show starts.

Jumble Boogie

I attended Jumble Boogie on Saturday which included a vintage sale, local boutiques, local designers, music, food and drinks all on a roof top patio. The weather was gorgeous for and outdoor sale. I'm on a pretty tight budget right now so I didn't end up buying anything, but Corinne, Miranda and Karolina picked up some fabulous items!  I was so tempted to buy something from Anne B. Accessories, and Pout Clothing!

Counting down the days until mine and JP's road trip. One week.

Wednesday Live Cosmo hosted a blogger get together at their office. It was so great to meet some new bloggers as well as see some familiar faces. It was a casual get together with wine and cheese, and a good opportunity to just chat and get to know each other. I find that the Calgary fashion/art community is so supportive of bloggers. It's really so amazing, and it makes me appreciate my city so much more.

Saturday Karolina of karolinas-style.ca and I met up with Miranda and Corrine of Twenty Something Online at Broken City for Jumble Boogie, a local designer and vintage sale. I'll share photos of the Live Cosmo Blogger meet-up and Jumble Boogie Sale soon!  Until then here are some photos KD and I took before a shopping trip a couple weeks ago.

I know it's still summer and I hate thinking of Fall right now, but I had to use this look for this contest. I posted this look on the blog last fall. I love wool jackets, and this is my favourite jacket that I own. Wool coats are so great when the weather gets cooler in the fall and even colder in the winter.
You can check out more photos from this look HERE

Thank you Thank you for voting!!
