Joe Fresh Eye Shadow

posted on: Monday, December 17, 2012

As mentioned in a couple of previous posts, I received some Joe Fresh beauty products to test out. My first posts were on nail polish and coloured eye liner, and now I'm onto the eye shadows. For this look, I used a combination of shadows from two palettes. The first was a face palette including three shadows, blush and three lip glosses. The second was an eye shadow quad, including four shimmery neutral colours.

For a base colour I used the shimmery brown in the bottom left of the shadow quad, then used the shimmery white to highlight the brow bone. I used the dark brown shadow from the face palette in the crease of the eye and I also used it as an eye liner. For a final touch I added a sweep of the shimmery pink from the shadow quad.

I really like neutral colours for makeup, so these two palettes worked perfectly for me. The shadows go on quite light compared to some others that I own. I've found that if I'm going for a bit more of a dramatic look that adding a little water to the shadow will make it go on darker and last a little longer.

This is going to be a brief post. I'm taking a quick break from writing a paper and I thought I would just post some of the items on my Aritzia wish list. Velvet, burgundy and big sweaters are some of the things that have been my mind lately.

Coffee Shops and Stars

posted on: Monday, December 10, 2012

It's been awhile since I've done an outfit post. This is what I wore on a day spent studying and writing papers last week. I usually like to study or write in the comfort of my own home but lately I've found that I'm much more productive when I'm at a coffee shop. Maybe because when I'm at home all I want to do is look up decorating inspiration, or clean and organize my new place.

Lately Vol. 7

posted on: Tuesday, December 4, 2012

The last couple of weeks have been pretty busy and the result is that I've been absent from the blog. With moving, school, and work there hasn't been much free time, and when I do have free time it's spend on homework or cleaning. We've finally started to settle into our new place, and I'm excited for life to get back to normal. Although I've been busy I can't complain. I'm loving life right now. School is really fulfilling and I feel so happy when I'm learning. Other then school and work I was able to sneak out for a bit to the Hillberg & Berk grand opening with KD. Afterwards we grabbed some hot chocolate and donuts and chatted. I also attempted to dye a skirt and a pair of pants black. I'd never dyed any garments before, so I didn't know what to expect. Both items turning a deep purple instead of black, which I ended up really liking. I plan to eventually get around to doing a before and after outfit post. Anyway, below are a few photos from instagram of what I've been up to.

Shoe Obsessed

SHOES

I'm going through a major shoe obsession at the moment, particularly with anything that has ankle straps or is an ankle boots. Here are a few examples. Not that any of these shoes are practical with the current weather we are having, but I can dream right? All I've been wearing lately are my Sorels, which I am in love with so I can't complain too much.

1. Joe Fresh wedge ankle boot
2. Rachel Comey Penpal ankle boot
3. Joe Fresh ankle strap pump
4. Jeffrey Campbell ankle strap boot
5. Aldo/Flare Colab oxblood day shootie
6. Jeffrey Campbell start-burst ankle boot

Joe Fresh Eyes

posted on: Tuesday, October 23, 2012

As I mentioned in this post, I received some beauty products from Joe Fresh not too long ago. One of the beauty items I received from Joe Fresh was their liquid eyeliner in Azure. I followed the tips from the video below when using this eyeliner and kept the rest of my makeup very simple and basic. I usually stick to neutral colours for my eye makeup, so it was fun to play around with some colour. I found the liner was long lasting and very pigmented.

Black, Green, & Railroad Tracks

This outfit is from my first day at WCFW. I bought this Caitlin Power romper at the PARK designer sample sale a few months ago, and was waiting for the perfect moment to wear it. My favourite detail is the leather shoulders.

In other news, I started school, and I ran my first half-marathon in Kelowna last weekend! I am ridiculously excited about school, and am loving the program so far and the half-marathon went really well. The whole weekend was a lot of fun. My brother ran with me and JP and my brother's girlfriend joined us on the trip to Kelowna to cheer us on. We both finished our runs in the amount of time we expected which was around two and a half hours. Unfortunately we don't know the exact times of our runs because both of our time chips didn't activate for some reason. Next time around we plan to do more speed work to bring our time down.

Joe Fresh Autumn Nail Polish

posted on: Wednesday, October 3, 2012

As you all know I love everything Joe Fresh, so when I was asked to try some of their fall beauty products, I was overjoyed. First up is the nail polish. Nail polish is always a fun way add some of the new season's colours to your outfit. I've always loved nail polish and have kept a pretty big collection since I was in Jr. High. Out of the Joe Fresh polishes, I'm especially loving Mulberry, a deep purple with subtle sparkles. I wore it all last week, and then switched over to wearing Terracotta over the weekend, which I am also loving. In the photos the Terracotta polish turned out a little red, but it has more brown and orange tones in it then red. Joe Fresh nail polish is such a steal because it $4 a bottle, goes on smoothly, the colour is rich,  it dries in good time, and I've found on myself it can last 3-4 days without chipping. I'm definitely not careful with my hands after applying nail polish, so 3-4 days is excellent for me. In the last photo I did one had with two coats of Terracotta and the other in one coat. I prefer two coats, but if I were in a hurry I think I could definitely get away with one coat.

Little Black Dress

This is what I wore on my birthday. I had a pretty laid back birthday this year. JP and I went out for steak dinner and had froyo for dessert on the Saturday. On Sunday JP and I went out for breakfast, then I stopped by the Home and Design show with my cousin and aunt and took in some ideas for my new home (we are moving in late November!). It was also my dad's birthday so we celebrated later in the week with angle food birthday cake.

This is what I wore to PARKSALE a couple weeks ago. If you missed my post on the sale you can check it out here. Life is going to start getting pretty exciting in the next week. I will be starting school (finally!) and I'm running my first half-marathon! Unfortunately these exciting events are happening the same time as PARKLUXE so I won't be able to attend this year, but if you are in Calgary don't miss out! It's going to be an amazing show.

Last week I was lucky enough to catch a last minute ride to Western Canada Fashion Week in Edmonton with Aleem designer of Bano eeMee and KD. It was seriously such a fun two days! Watch out for photos from the shows coming up later this week.
